Yes... The song is compiled fully (i.e. you can now hear it fully), however some more finishing touches are pending in the mix-down. I plan to post one last version of the song by this weekend; so please provide your valuable feedback. Please see the "Hello World" note on my facebook wall to listen to the fully compiled version.
What's next ?
Thanks to many comments that I received (although mostly via email :-(), I am very encouraged and I do plan to continue with this adventure. But there is a very diverse set of opinions that I have received about what I should do next. Following are the brief set of opinions that I have received along with my comments on each of them :
1. You said: The vocals tonal quality is muffled and is not in line with the spirit of this song. SS: I think I have corrected this somewhat in this version. While I can keep fiddling with the effects some more, but if you are not seeing a significant improvement, I humbly submit: this is not an issue with the recording, but the fundamental tonal quality (or actually lack of it) of my voice :-)
2. You said: Vocals sound good. SS: Yes, although I am thankful to receive compliments and I do require a lot of encouragement; for this song, I think I will have to agree to the opinion#1 above. And if you think that the original one was better, I respect your opinion, but I humbly submit again: that credit needs to go the effects that I used in the original version.
3. You said: Now that I have been able to record a song, I should do something original. SS: I do agree and this is my (very) long term goal; but I am not yet confident to do something original. Basically, I am a guitar player and a "wannabe" composer. So, let me get a bit more confidence with various genres of cover recordings before attempting something original. Watch out next for a totally different type of song - I would like to consciously try out various genres.
3. You said: Although the song sounds nice, the process and efforts behind this attempt is not very visible; anybody can think that this is not a big deal especially with a lot of Karaoke singing that gets posted on the net. SS: You are right. I also enjoy Karaoke singing; however the objective here is very different. While Karaoke singing provides a very nice way to showcase your singing talent, you would not be able to go far if your objective is to showcase your instrument playing talent or if the final aspiration is to get serious with recording, audio engineering and composing. So, what I will do immediately now is, i.e. after I post the final version of this song and before the next song creation: explain the process, the gear that I used to produce this song etc... using a lot of pictures and/or videos if possible. So that's going to be my next major post.. please keep reading this blog and continue to encourage with lots of comments..
